hello web denizens!
i’m currently sprinting toward a deadline to have an entire draft of a full musical done. good lord. i started on october 4th, and just about two months later, there’s a hat where there was no hat before.
i’m headed back to the university of chicago this weekend to do our next workshop of said musical, culminating in a small presentation for some invited friends next week. who knows what happens after that. it would be a shame if no one else saw what we made… but then again there is pleasure in keeping things close to the chest.
while in chicago, i’m going to make a surprise appearance with my friends the hot sardines. look it up if you’re curious. you have all the info you need. shhhhh.
since no one has any time for anything else this time of year (gifting, holiday parties, family obligations), i will just offer you some fun links that will not be as fresh if i wait until my next full episode (which might be after the holidays). enjoy them while you are bored at your in-law’s.
i’ll close with this: someone was recommending me to moonlight as an electric guitarist in a wonderful artist’s band. it would be just for a short period of time, including a festival in another country. yes please! they asked for me to source and send some clips of me playing lead guitar because my “instagram is only your dog”. ha! they should see my dog’s instagram! i loved this because it’s true, even though i am technically shooting my career self in my career foot.
those of y’all that know and support this pod-newsletter know how to find me. and you know what’s up. you have all the info you need. shhhhhh… and thank you!
x erin
ps - my kitchen is getting renovated. awesome! but stressful timing! anyway… i like long-term art accumulation projects. to wit: here is a setlist from when i sat in with the Super Chief Trio at Foo Fest in the mid-2000s, plus a sticker from almost every red, green, or orange pepper and watermelon i have prepared at home since.
¡ME GUSTA! : SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!
it’s that time of year! decorate your tree, or not, to the strains of my Anti-Holiday Album.
i usually only read e-books. terrible, i know. but once i switched, i read three times more than i did before. yet! someone gave me a paper book for my birthday: an autobiography by cicely tyson. wow! she is a queen. and paper is nice once-in-awhile.
i love me some rachel maddow! and now that i don’t have to watch MSNBC to experience her genius, i am all the happier. i devoured her latest doc-u-pod. it’s cray! and historical! and timely!
omg the new celtics coach had the best reaction when asked about the recent royal visit to boston.
i love the royals. i do. but i also love a smartly written snarky king charles take down.
and you better believe i will have my finger poised to click and watch harry and meghan’s neflix doc-u-series when it drops dec 8.
like many 80’s kids, the karate kid got me into bonsai, for a second. this guy got really into it. his story and trees are incredible.
i savored every page of karen joy fowler’s historical novel about the most famous acting family of the 19th century, the booths. yes, those booths, as in john wilkes.
if you like war movies that make war look like the absolutely awful thing it is, settle in to be horrified by the new version of “all quiet on the western front”.
