last month’s newsletter was all about doing things that scare us, in order to grow and stay engaged in our lives. i was specifically talking about doing a public reading of my newest musical, TERRARIUM BEHAVIOUR, in los angeles. it felt like a huge and necessary leap. well, denizens, i’m alive to report that i had a very happy landing. not that everything went as planned (it is theater, by the way, and things fall apart always), but everything went as it should have for maximum learning on my part. on the other side of the experience, i feel more confident in the piece and in my ability to shepherd the idea into reality. i delighted in my fabulous collaborators and all the specifics they brought to their roles. and like any good leap, it energized me to take off again when i’m ready. you can bet i’ll keep you posted on when i plan to jump next.
i have to confess that by the time we get to march in the calendar, i am in full on march-mode. putting one foot in front of the other methodically, rarely pausing to look up, just trying to get through these last dregs of winter. maybe you can relate. but in honor of my recent time in new orleans, i want to try to spend the next couple weeks not on a march but on a parade. i know it’s lent, but we can still parade, right? i’ve got some fun shows this month (scroll down for all the dates), and i’ll be tracking a new record for the tremendous jen zimberg. the rest of the spring will similarly find me out and about our dear land, possibly near you.
so here’s to paying attention to where we’re walking, thrusting our chins out, and high stepping together through the last of the cold. hopefully with tubas.
