Terrific reflection. I listen to this song all the time all the time on one of my playlists, and I realize it reminds me of some complicated times for me as well, though in a different context. It makes sense that different levels of fame/access can become frustrating or bittersweet, but I also see such a price paid by those who become more and more owned by an industry.
This hit hard. You put into words so many feelings I have about similar gigs I’ve done that on the one hand pump you up but also feel so empty yet high-stakes. I got to spend some time with AW prior to her Back to Black album and saw a similar nihilistic melancholy that seemed to eclipse and sabotage her tremendous musical gifts. Fame (like fortune) can be a curse.
This was so beautiful—thank you for writing it.
I remember bigging you up to people at work when I saw you were going to be on that episode, and being gutted you only got to do one song.

Wait…you didn’t see my post?! JK. Great episode! Great song! Supercool story and performance. Success and life! You are brave about everything.
