Reminds me of Bataille’s reflections (in the Accursed Share V.1) on the loss of intimacy in the “world of things” (wherein all wealth gets reinvested in the logistics of accumulation and security). Indulgence in the joys of neighborly community — forms of intimacy that are useless to the state and to Capital — is a nice antidote/corrective to our compulsive reinvestment of surplus. Here’s to life beyond utility!
